Renewable Energy Accountability Project Principal
S. David Freeman Chosen as
Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for the Environment

The Renewable Energy Accountability Project, (REAP), is pleased to congratulate S. David Freeman on his selection by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to become Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for the Environment. On account of this great news, S. David Freeman will, effective immediately, become Principal Emeritus of the Renewable Energy Accountability Project.

“The selection of S. David Freeman as Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for the Environment demonstrates just how serious the City of Los Angeles is in realizing a bold green future based upon clean renewable energy,” said Jim Gonzalez, Chair of the Renewable Energy Accountability Project.

“Dave Freeman is America’s most distinguished public environmentalist. He understands that global warming is real, and that a time clock is ticking for California and the world. Dave Freeman’s history of supporting bold renewable energy initiatives, such as Los Angeles’ Measure B and Proposition 7, place him in the front lines of the fight for a new, job-producing green economy,” Gonzalez continued.

“We at REAP look forward to working closely with Dave Freeman in breaking the stranglehold of dirty coal on LADWP and its electricity customers. Dave Freeman knows only too well that LA’s dirty little secret is that almost half of its electricity is generated by burning dirty coal, and with Dave Freeman leading the fight we know this will change,” Gonzalez concluded.

In addition to serving as a Principal in the Renewable Energy Accountability project, S. David Freeman was a vocal and active supporter of Proposition 7, the citizens’ initiative sponsored by Californians for Solar and Clean Energy, which could have required that 50% of California’s electricity be generated by clean renewable resources by 2025.
