RENEWABLE ENERGY LEGISLATION
Assemblyman Michael Duvall’s votes against AB64 and SB14 should be investigated
SACRAMENTO, CA – In response to the disturbing revelations regarding Sempra’s lobbying relationship with Assemblyman Michael D. Duvall (CA72) and his votes against renewable energy legislation AB64 and SB14, the Renewable Energy Accountability Project asks for his votes to be immediately investigated.
“In order to ensure the integrity of the Democratic process, the California Legislature should investigate Duvall’s votes against both AB64 and SB14.The public deserves to know the extent of Sempra’s influence on both pieces of legislation, and may need to conduct new votes on both bills”, stated Jim Gonzalez, Chair and Principal of REAP. “We hope that Speaker Bass and the Rules Committee thoroughly investigate all undue lobbying behavior against renewable energy legislation.”
Assemblyman Duvall’s outrageous behavior and poor judgment calls into question the extent of his loyalty to Sempra Energy while he served as Vice-Chair of the Utilities and Commerce Committee.
Sempra donated $1,500 in campaign contributions to Duvall in March of 2009, two months before he formally took up the company’s opposition to AB64 which would have increased the percentage of electricity utility companies like Sempra must procure from renewable resources.
“Sempra energy has a lot of explaining to do regarding its undue influence on renewable energy legislation” Gonzalez concluded.
